Confessions on a blog

I've been toying with WritersDigest.com and their writing prompts, which are inspiring. Coming off of "Clerical Error" I couldn't resist answering this question:

You've been living a life filled with lies and it's time for you to come clean. There's one lie in particular that's been eating at you and you have to make right. Start off your response with: "I have a confession to make. I never really . . . " and explain the harm the lie caused and how you intend to rectify it.

I have a confession to make. I never really cooked that dinner for your parents when you first introduced them to me. I know it looked good -- the salad, roasted chicken, garlic mashed potatoes, stuffed mushrooms, roasted vegetables and creme brulee. But really, the dog ate it. I accidentally left all the food on the counter, near the edge and the dog went counter surfing. I heard the crash and saw Murphy eating the food.

All of it was ruined and I had no idea what to do, so I went out. I smelled something good and followed the scent to where this meal was laid out on a picnic table. No one was around, so I just grabbed everything and ran. I stole someone's picnic to feed your parents.

I've never roasted a chicken before -- I just make stir fries. But I'm glad that your parents liked the meal. I just hope they like stir fries.
