American Apparel = skanky porn

Whilst Keidra and I were shopping in uber trendyville, we checked out American Apparel for random skirts, dresses, shirts, etc.

I was in the dressing room, looking at pictures of the models and I had to ask: "Are the models meth addicts?"

I thought I was going to get an STD while I was in the store. Everyone's so skinny with that hipster hairdo that looks like bedhead, but they actually spent an hour on before going to work. I have a hard time respecting a store that uses vintage Penthouses for decorations.

*whiny, indignant hipster voice* "But Viv, you're not getting the irony! And you're too uptight about sex!"

No. I'm not uptight about sex. My friends are way too familiar with my potty mouth and Jeff is familiar with *ahem*. And I get the irony and I still think it's stupid. I disagree. I don't think a retail store should be using Penthouse as its inspiration. It's like Tom Ford and the naked Vanity Fair.

To me, it's an excuse for the objectification of women and men. Yeah, people can argue that sex sells, but this amount of blatancy is stupid. It doesn't come across as sexy to me -- it comes across as a desperate attempt to be edgy.

I don't think that I'm going to be buying stuff from American Apparel. While I like the idea of living wages and fair trade, I'll spend my money elsewhere. There's plenty of other companies that won't make me feel like I need a STD test after shopping there.

Well, Keidra and I were talkin' tonight and we decided that you should come down the weekend of May 20th...it's my b-day (and rumor has it just mere days after yours) and we're doing it up German style at Brauhaus for dinner and Mayfest for some POLKA and Lederhosen! Please come, please come!

I find it a bit strange that you are slagging American Apparel for their "objectification of men and women" while referring to these models as possible "meth addicts" and insinuating that they are carriers of STDs. You may want to think about that one for a minute.
