Deep in the heart of Texas

Greetings from Houston! I'm currently seated in the JW Marriott hotel before I have to go upstairs and attempt to look cute for Jeff's cousin's wedding. Said hotel is very posh. It's also across the street from The Galleria mall, which is chock full of DKNY, Betsey Johnson, Dior, Gucci, Armani and other stuff that I can't afford.

Since the wedding's at 6 p.m., I had a moment to check out the mall and all of it's overpriced designer pleasures. I've figured out a few things:

1. Why would anyone in their right mind spend $650 for something with a Coach label on it? Or for a wallet that has CD (for Christian Dior) in New Roman Type? I could make that shit if I was bored.

2. I like looking at fashion. I like seeing new clothing and fancy dresses and stuff like that, but really, I don't enjoy those stores. There's something too "snootier-than-thou" about them that makes me cringe.

The clerks are all quiet, polite and look like they spend half their paychecks on the stuff. Some look like they spend the other half on Botox. Everything's overpriced. I just like going into the stores to look at the people who shop there.

The one thing that amused the hell out of me was watching some trendy chick with bottle blond hair and UGG boots strut around in the Coach store, modeling a new bag (when she already had Chanel).

3. Is it wrong that my favorite place to be was the ice skating rink? I wish I had time to strap on some skates -- I used to ice skate (badly) as a kid, and seeing Ice Princess, made we want to get out on the ice again.

4. What is it with people approaching me all the damn time? I had one Mary Kay person say I had a nice smile and suggested that I work for Mary Kay. I must practice my bitchface or something.

5. I *heart* the Apple Store. No, they didn't have to use the iBat on me, despite the urge to grab the new video iPods and run like hell with it out of the store.

So far Houston's been alright. Very pretty, but I'm in the more posh downtown area. Jeff's cousins are still beautiful and wonderful folks to be around. The bride organized the whole thing, looks good and is still sarcastic as hell. I love his family. Tonight should be fun. Sadly, it's not a costume wedding. That would have been awesome.

And I got to ride in a stretch limo for the first time in my life. They had to use that service to pick up me, Jeff, Jeff's dad, mom and brother. That's the only time that I can justify using a limo -- when you have to pick up five people at once.

The gift basket also rules the house -- it's got two wines, beer and random nibbles in it. Something tells me I'm in for a very posh night tonight.

We should totally go skating! I didn't know you liked to! I need someone to go skating with and Michael has to be talked/bribed/threatened into it every year, despite the fact that he's not too bad at it. Let me know if you are at all interested!
