It's that time of the year. The turkey breast, slathered in butter and herbs is roasting in the oven, the stuffing is ready to go and family and friends are gathered around to give thanks and stuff themselves silly with food.
And it's that time of the year where I list off a great deal of things that make me happy and thankful for being alive and here to wreak havoc.
But first, I want to do a quick PS to the last post -- I hate to think that BD will stumble upon this blog, read that post and then tell her therapist: "My mom never loved me. She loved her naps more than me."
So I have to say right now that probably the biggest thing that I'm thankful for is my daughter. She's been a beautiful addition to our family that makes me realize that I do have more patience than I think I have, I am stronger than what I thought I was and there is someone who I would die for and kill for. I'm thankful for how she's added onto our family and how she's a relatively easygoing kid.
But that doesn't prevent me from making smartass comments about her or everything else. Sorry BD, Momma loves you, but she's always been a smartass.
With that big one out of the way, here's the other things I'm thankful for:
Jeff for being a fantastic father and sweet husband. Chocolate biscuits and hot cocoa. Coffee. Stella for being a good friend and great sister. Dan for being a great brother in law. Maddie and Elliott for being the two cute little crazies in our lives. Eric and Karrie along with the trio of Princess Jenna (who loves all things Disney), Ally (and her seriousness) and the newest addition -- Samantha. The fact that BD will have two cousins on both sides -- Maddie and Sammie -- who are the same age as her. Gregg and Susan for being overly awesome. Keidra for being one of my best friends and closest allies. Eddie Izzard. Henry Rollins. Good bloggers like Sid, QGM, Jon and others who I make sure to visit everyday (even though I might not comment all the time) and who give me stuff to mull over. Erich and his pie-making abilities. Michael's gaming knowledge. Katie's knowledge of children's books. Mike, Em and Grant for showing us the way to parenthood. Alan and Eva for good company. Heather for showing me that being vegan doesn't mean that your food tastes like cardboard. Jenno for sharing a love of bad TV and 80's metal. Raizel for her accounting skills. Chicago hot dogs. Being able to eat sushi again. Mom and Grandma who love me, despite our fights. My mom-in-law for being a good friend, which I know I'm lucky to have. My father-in-law for being able to fix anything on the planet (including a fussy baby). Mommybloggers like Her Bad Mother and Dooce for showing me that being a mom doesn't mean that you become a pod person. U2. Snarkfest. Lewis Black. Coffee (yes, again. When you're sleep deprived, it's like manna from heaven). BD only waking up once at night, instead of two or three times. Sandra Boynton's board books. A working wireless connection. Good gaming sessions with friends. Gen Con. Italian food. A good afternoon nap for mommy and baby. Sunny days. Places to walk with a stroller that are fun. Gracie for being BD's arch nemesis. Brian and Kat (miss you guys!). Jabby for their geek/photo/everything else knowledge. Mark D. for being a decorating/electrical/geek genius. Ben for his ability to piss off authority figures. The Table overall (sorry if I miss anyone) for just being an interesting read at times, with different viewpoints. Ugly Betty. The Sopranos on A&E. Netflix. Good nursing bras. Project Runway (welcome back! I missed you so!). Pirates. Ninjas. Order of the Stick. Something Positive. Youtube. Warm socks. Good times with friends. Good times with family. Anthony Bourdain's No Reservations. Knowing that even when there's big life changes, your friends will still be there to back you up.
I think that's about it off the top of my head right now. I just want to wish everyone a happy Turkey Day and I hope that you all are having fun!
