Last Thursday, Enich, Erik L., Matt, Ben, Jeff and I headed downtown to the posh Overture Center to watch everyone's favorite angry, foaming comedian, Lewis Black perform.
The last time I saw Lewis Black was at the Barrymore -- a funky little theater on the east side of town that probably seats about 1,000, tops. This time, we were in the Overture Center, which seats maybe 3,500 or so. This time, we were perched up on the balcony for a great view -- albeit a bit disconcerting because you could look straight down and a sensation of vertigo.
Lewis, as always, was wonderful to watch. While some of the routines I've heard before, they were still funny as hell to watch again. Lewis wasn't as politically charged as in the past, but he made up for it by mocking Madison's ultra PC-ness and describing a couple of great news stories involving a woman biting off a man's penis as he cooked pancakes and a hippo swallowing a dwarf at a traveling circus.
What I really like about Lewis is how he pokes holes in our own hypocracies, with humor and a good slap upside the head here and there. That's always entertaining to watch, and humbling for the soul.
