In addition to being New Year's Eve, it's the love of my life's Birthday! Happy Birthday Jeff (not that he reads this anyways)! The birthday fairy already stopped by with heaps of pressies -- a new iPod and car rig so he can listen to more than the usual CDs in the car and books. Tonight we're heading out for dinner and The Life Aquatic matinee. Whee!
In any case, here's some of the little events that occurred on your birthday:
1600: Queen Elizabeth I of England grants a formal charter to the London merchants trading to the East Indies, hoping to break the Dutch monopoly of the spice trade in what is now Indonesia. Mmmmm spice.
1879: Edison creates the first practical incadencent light in New Jersey. What they don't tell anyone about is a failed application out west that had everyone turning into zombies (well, the Deadlands universe).
1969 Jimi Hendrix's new band, the Band of Gypsies, debuts with its first album, Band of Gypsies. Hendrix's former band, the Jimi Hendrix Experience, had dissolved after several productive years together.
