Why FOX sux

They cancelled Keen Eddie. Now I'm new to the game, having gotten addicted to it on BRAVO, but it's a smart, funny show. Not surprisingly, it's fairly British. There's something about Brit humor that doesn't translate well to American audiences -- even if the story is a fish-out-of-water, cop goes to London to work for Scotland Yard, kind of story.

Admittedly, the sensibility of the show demands that viewer know their music, can follow fast cuts and also have an offbeat sense of humor. But I think that many Americans are afraid of the British -- even though they speak English, it's not a familiar sort of English. Slang terms like "bollocks" and "bloody" don't go over well for the average person.

Maybe more time was needed to have this one flower and bloom. I think that most people would need time to get over the accents and the oddball slang -- much like Eddie in the show. It would take some time, but with most networks, time isn't what a series has plenty of. Either you make it in the first three episodes, or you're killed off.

Fortuantely, I'm not an average person. I'm starting to get an unhealthy attachment to the show (sadly, there are only 13 episodes). It reminds me of Guy Ritchie flicks with that fast cutting, smart dialogue and tight storylines. FOX lost out on a great show. And with only 13 episodes, we lost out too.
