You asked, I answered! Part Deux

In connection to my post where I begged people for ideas, Kat gave me a good question:

Tell us a fun story about how you met someone...e.g. Jeff, Keidra, in-laws, etc.

I choo-choo-choose Jeff! The is a love story for all ages!

Yeah, I also rolled my eyes there too.

Anyways, there were two times when I met Jeff -- online and in reality. The first time I met Jeff was in the summer of 1995 after I had just finished my first year of college. I was back home and to amuse myself at night I was on a friend's BBS system (for you whippersnappers, BBS is a bulletin board system). Things had changed between me and some of my friends from high school and really, I was kind of out of the loop and feeling a little lonely, so the BBS was great for chatting with a bunch of people.

There was a guy on there with the nickname of Quicksilver. My nickname at the time was Redfish and well, we got to chatting, as people do on a BBS. I found out that he went to the same school I did, lived in the same dorm (but different tower) and also was part of a game called Werewolf that I had just learned about my freshman year.

As we continued to chat, I told him that I'd like to meet him once we got up to Madison. I didn't have a lot of friends my first year and I was looking to meet other people than the person who would become my roommate from hell and my high school friend that I spent a lot of time with.

Fast-forward to September. Jeff and I continued to e-mail each other back and forth, talking about the UPL and how I got an e-mail address there (which was thanks to the roomie from hell). I got an e-mail invitation from Jeff to a party at a friend's place (I believe it was Alan's apartment) and decided, what the hell. I had nothing to lose and I really wanted to meet new people.

So I went to the party, knowing that I only really knew one guy, and the only way I knew him was from the Internet. He could've been a creepy mouthbreathing weirdo for all I knew.

But he wasn't. Jeff (and I also met Aaron T. that night) was very nice, talking to me about a bunch of different things and also teaching me how to drink. I learned that cheap vodka tastes like nail polish remover and that I like whiskey. I can't remember what we talked about, all I remember thinking is that he was a very sweet guy and kinda cute. I had seen him around -- some of his mutal friends I knew through University Theater and in the dorms, it is easy to see someone, but not know who they are.

After a couple of shots and several hours of talking I had to go to work. He offered to walk me to my job and we spent some time talking outside before I had to go in. I had just been burned by a friendship-turned-messing around-turned ugly, so I said I wasn't ready to do dating or anything like that. But we agreed that getting to know each other would be a good thing.

Amusingly enough, that lasted maybe a week or two. I admitted that I thought he was attractive and went after him like Pepe Le Pew. I am not subtle. Fortuantely, he had a sense of humor about that.

But that's another story and it's a different answer to a different question.

Hi Viv,

I read that you had a not-so-great experience using Huggies with BD back in July, so I thought that you’d be a perfect fit for a project we’re working on with Pampers Stages. We’re looking for the honest opinions of parents, and I wanted to know if you’d like to review the product on your site. If you are, we’ll send you a Jumbo pack of the correct size along with a tub of corresponding wipes. Please email me if you’re interested, we’d love to have your voice included.

Thanks so much, Victoria@rocketxl.com
