I'm officially old.

Last night was the MTV Video Music Awards. For once, I wasn't curled up in front of the TV ripping into music artists I had never heard of or lambasting the lack of creativity in music videos.

No, I was a one-woman audience member to BD's arias of pain and woe. Arias so loud that they could peel the paint off the walls and cause fillings to explode. Then I realized she needed to eat and that's when she shuttled off, peacefully, to sleep.

I did, however, get to see Britney's grand "comeback" performance thanks to the magic of Tivo. Well, me and the girl did (as I tried to calm her down by bouncing on the yoga ball). I watched about two mintues of the performance, then realized that I had a baby girl in my arms.

I promptly felt dirty for exposing her to terrible lip syncing to a song whose only apparent lyrics were "gimmie, gimmie, gimmie" and turned it off.

Anyways, given the news today about the show, it appears I didn't miss much at all. Party suites? Showing only 10 seconds of a performance in the hopes that people will watch "remixes" of the shows in the future? Uch. Besides, half the performances nowadays aren't very good at all and they feature people who I've never heard of doing stuff that I hate.

Sarah Silverman? Can someone explain to m why she's funny? To me, she's like a third-rate Don Rickles wannabe.

Wow. I'm old. In the past, the VMAs were interesting for either the host (remember Chris Rock?) or for what crazy shit Madonna was going to pull (and at least she had some talent to back her craziness up).

Now if you don't mind. I've got to sit on my front lawn and yell at the kids to get off of it.

at least BDs arias or for real and there wasa no phony lip-synching involved!

fwiw, i spent the evening watching X-men 1 & 2 while re-reading Harry Potter and shoving popcorn in my face.

This was a repeat (different movies) of the previous two nights!

I don't even have a wee one to use as an reason for doing this.

Oh and I yelled through my ceiling at my upstairs neighbors stomping obnoxiousness, which is only one step away from sitting on the lawn.

I haven't watched the MTV VMAs for years. I can't figure what's funny about Silverman either. I keep watching her waiting for something funny to happen, but nothing ever does.

Sorry about BD, hope she's doing better. :)

Um.....yeah. Britney was terrible. I had heard she was the opening act, and I tuned in for that. So, I got to see the trainwreck as it happened. At one point, I honestly think she just stopped "singing" and her voice kept going. And her facial expression? She looked bored.....with her OWN performance. Now that's bad! And every time they cut to another celeb singer in the audience, their faces were just expressionless. Damn.....

And ya know, I saw ONE routine where I thought Sara Silverman was OK. But last night? She actually blasted Britney...immediately after Britney got off the stage, and even brought her kids into it. Really...not cool.

Hope Evie's doing better today! And you're not that old....just that the VMAs have gotten that bad.
