Completely random thought....

Why is it that people are making a bigger deal about Princess Di's death and not how New Orleans is doing after Katrina?

Just wondering.

Because American's don't want to deal with how badly we've failed our own people.

Because people are horrible?

*shrugs* Princess Di's death was tragic, but to be honest, I think she gets more attention because she has a face. I think many people still don't understand or appreciate how Katrina hurt the people of New Orleans on a more personal level.

I mean if you look at the articles on the rebuilding now, all you see is stuff about insurance claims and federal payouts. It's about the money, not the people who were hurt, the people who died, or were shipped off and dumped in other cities. They've fallen right off the map (and they were never really allowed much in the way of human faces in the media to start with!).

Which, sadly, leads right back into my first point I think.
