Someone explain something to me...

Why did people like Napoleon Dynamite?

I've had at least six people recommend this movie to me, and after watching it, I have no idea why they recommended it. I don't get it -- it felt like 50 minutes of build-up, 20 minutes of action and then 16 minutes of "FINALLY! SOMETHING!"

Oh, and if Haylie Duff played Summer Wheatly, girl looks like she was rode hard and put away wet.

Edited to add: Oh good. I'm not alone. Roger Ebert also didn't like it.

You know what? I felt this way too when I first saw it. "It's not funny, what's the big deal?" Then a saw it with a bunch of people at a party (totally sober) and laughed my ass off. I still don't know why. It's funnier with other people. And the dance scene is awesome, you gotta admit.

Same thing happened with Zoolander. And Glitter. Oh, and now I see Napoleon Dynamite alone and I still think it's funny, so I dunno what that means.

I'm with ya Viv...didn't like it in the least. I tried watching it three times in two weeks and couldn't get through it...

But, what do I know, I watch League of Extraordinary Gentlemen on a monthly basis, knowing full well it sucks, yet still being entertained by it.

Ok. Maybe watching it sucked. I can understand that. But if you think back to it there are a lot of funny parts. The time machine? The nunchuck skills? The liger? It's all funny after the fact.

I saw it once with friends. I thought it was mainly just "ok" with a few choice scenes/lines:

"Your MOM goes to college..."

The dance scene, as K. mentioned.

"Yes, I love technology..." lol...sorry, that song was funny.

But the rest of it wasn't that great.

I didn't get it either. I think the appeal of that movie is that it is just fun to quote. Like, I don't think the scene where Napolean feeds Tina the llama was very funny at first, but after hearing my cousin's impersonation of that moment had me in a fit of giggles.

It's funny. Today, in the subway I saw somebody wearing a "Vote For Pedro" shirt. I just wanted to say, "Dude, 2004 called. They want their tired trend back."
