Scenes from a Christmas

It's Christmas Eve and we're at the in-laws. The feat has been devoured, the drinks drank and the adorable (albeit rambunctious) nieces are in bed. Everyone's downstairs watching football and Jeff and I come down with a present....

Fast forward to Christmas Day and my mom is opening up her present from both me and Jeff.

(Now this part, if I had a split screen to narrate would be awesome, but I don't so humor me.)

Both Jeff parents and my mom open the boxes and see digital picture frames.

"It's for when we e-mail you pictures of the new baby," Jeff and I tell them.

Jeff's mom starts crying and there's hugging and laughter all around.

One day later, as I tell my mom, she more or less does the "yeah, yeah" bit, thinking that I'm taking about my sister and her new baby due in February. Then, it hits her. It's not my sister I'm talking about. It's me. I'm pregnant.

Tears, laughter and joy occurs.

So I guess now I'm telling the whole damn world -- I'm pregnant. I just finished out the first trimester and all systems are a go for baby launch. My world is about to be filled with unwanted advice, 2 a.m. feedings, sore boobs, midnight bathroom runs, enough baby equipment to require the hiring of a sherpa guide, labor pains, enormous amounts of poo and general chaos -- hopefully not in that order.

The new year should be pretty interesting. Expect to hear more bitching about how I can no longer button up my jeans.
