In anticipation of the upcoming holidays

I thought I'd swipe this meme from Writer's Digest:

You've heard the old adage, "If you can't say something nice, don't say anything at all." Write a sincere thank-you card for the worst gift you've ever received.

Dear Uncle Herbert --

I just wanted to write you a quick note thanking you for The New Sugar Busters! cookbook. I suppose it was about time that I began watching what I eat as well as my weight and this cookbook was the perfect reminder that one can make meals without relying on sugar for flavor.

I do appreciate learning more about cutting back on refined sugars, rice, flour and other food products (which I have been trying to reduce in my diet as of late), but I never thought that I could use Cheese Whiz in a recipe instead of real cheese. Nor did I realize that bananas and carrots were bad for you. That's something I never considered before.

I tried making one of the recipes for Jeff, and his reaction was one of complete surprise, to say the least. He was definitely speechless for a long time.

In any case, thank you for the cookbook. I'm sure it'll be something I look forward to experimenting with in the future.

Your niece,

Viv
