Angelina Jolie, the head motherfucker in charge, is currently filming A Mighty Heart in India. She's playing Mariane Pearl, the widow of slain journalist Daniel Pearl.

For your reference -- Mariane is half Cuban, half white, as pictured here.

Angelina is NOT half Cuban, half white. While she does have Native American blood in her, I don't think the first thing people say when they see her is, "Damn! Is she an Indian or something?"

My guess is that the first thing people say when they see her is "Holy shit! She's hot!"

Anyways, Angelina does bear a striking resemblance to Mrs. Pearl.
But the entire thing still makes me kinda oogy.

I don't know if I'm willing to toss around the phrase "blackface" as much as some of the folks on the Internet, but it doesn't sit well with me. I know Mariane said she would like to be played by Angelina in the movie version, but aren't there other actresses -- say Halle Berry -- who would be a better choice? Without needing to go with the fake-and-bake tan set at carmel?

I know there's the argument that Angelina's a STAH and will help sell the movie, but really, is a movie about Daniel Pearl something that screams blockbuster? Now, I got love for Angelina, but really, with so few roles for minorities, why not give the role to Halle or Rosario Dawson?

Of course, Jennifer Aniston was originally slated to play Mariane, and if I had to choose between the two, I'd rather have Angelina.
