We have to keep gay people from screwing up marriage!

Apparently, straight people have the best interests of gay people at heart. We don't want them to have to deal with the insanity of divorce, custody battles and the hell that is wedding planning.

That's the only reason I can think of for this: Assembly OK's amendment to ban gay marriage. I mean, with a 50% chance of fucking up a marriage, that's the only reason I can comprehend for this [/sarcasm].

This is just stupid. We've got a state deficit, health care costs, a brain drain (from people who have decided that Wisconsin is too backwater to live here -- and they might be right), an economy in the toilet, Iraq, unemployment, schools being screwed over, municipalities being screwed over, public health services scrabbling for dollars, agricultural land being gobbled up by development, stormwater runoff, environmental issues, CWD and THIS is the thing that they go for?

Don't we have anything better to do with our time? I mean, I'd rather blowtorch a litter of puppies than take this up.

I'm hoping that the Senate and the people (if it goes to referendum) shoots this down. I'm hoping that people are smarter than that to go for this, which will alienate at least 10% of our population (and probably more) and forever brand us as a bunch of backwater, cheese-eating assholes. I love Wisconsin, don't get me wrong. If I hated it, I would've fled. But this is nuts.

It's an election year and this is shameless election pandering. No one wants to tackle the big issues because they're afraid people are too stupid to understand and this is the lightening rod issue this year. We've got better things to do. As leaders, they should have the balls to take on the tough issues instead of distracting the public with this crap.

Because of this, I'm suggesting that people check out Freedom to Marry and Dear Mary.

I'm pissed. I'm pissed because you'd think people would know better. We don't say that interracial marriage shouldn't occur, we don't say that one race is inferior, but we say people who love each other can't have the same right and benefits that come from marriage? Where the hell are we? What century is this?

I suppose sexuality is the final BIG frontier in a civil rights movement. We're witnessing history folks -- I just wish we weren't so stupid about it.
